Hillwalking - North Wales 2024
REN District Hillwalking Activity
Ruislip Eastcote Northwood District Scouts organised a hugely successful long weekend of hillwalking and gorge scrambling. 32 Scouts, including seven from 2nd/9th Ruislip Scouts joined 15 leaders for this memorable trip to Eryri National Park. We stayed in the Girl Guide hostel Felin Bach in Caeathro.
Snowdon
On Saturday, all the Scouts walked to the top of Snowdon – all 1085 m – in six groups of up to six Scouts, each with two leaders. The different groups used different routes up the mountain, Pyg Track, Miners Track, Snowdon Ranger and Llanberis Path. All the groups returned via Llanberis Path.
Hillwalking on Sunday
With climbing to the top of the mountain ticked off, on Sunday the Scouts were able to tackle more interesting walks, with different groups tackling various routes starting at Pont Pen-y-benglog and finishing at Gwern Gof Isaf Farm and Campsite.
Gorge scrambling
In place of the planned outdoor climbing, the Scouts went gorge scrambling on Monday morning – wearing wetsuites and their walking boots!
